EIWA weekly review: Lehigh topples No. 19 Central Michigan

Over half of the EIWA was in action this past weekend and while six of the seven schools won at least one dual in that span, none were more impressive than No. 11 Lehigh’s 23-9 trouncing of visiting No. 19 Central Michigan on Dec. 12.

Over half of the EIWA was in action this past weekend and while six of the seven schools won at least one dual in that span, none were more impressive than No. 11 Lehigh’s 23-9 trouncing of visiting No. 19 Central Michigan on Dec. 12.

The Mountain Hawks brought Leeman-Turner Arena to its feet and made a statement, taking seven of ten bouts from the Chippewas, including the only two major decisions of the day.

Lehigh took three straight in the middleweights, highlighted by Brian Tanen’s 9-1 major over Adam Miller at 157 pounds with the match tied at six apiece. The Mountain Hawks never looked back from that four-point lead and only dropped one more match on the day, reeling off three straight wins again to finish out the dual. A Look Inside PSAL and BTS 2010-11

Take a look inside BTS and PSAL in our 8 minute documentary. They’re aiming to make some noise in 2010-11. Watch what they have going on.

A couple of weeks back, LHW visited the BTS training center at 145 Thompson Street in Manhattan.   As I was walking downtown from my 16th Street office, I felt the 2010-11 season approaching in my bones.  A gray sky, a chill in the air, and darkness settling in early sent me back to my walks home after high school practice.  All that was missing was my wet hair turning to ice.  And once I got there, it was just like I remembered:  lots of athletes, music blasting, fooling around, basketball, rolling out the mats, and then about 2 hours of practice.  PSAL has it.  The culture is there, and before long, the results will be there to match.  Take a look inside BTS and PSAL in our 8 minute documentary.  They’re aiming to make some noise in 2010-11.  Watch what they have going on.

Conditioning Considerations for Combat Sports Such as Wrestling

A wrestler since the eighth grade, I can still remember the feeling I had walking off of the mat after my first match in high school. I felt like I had gotten run over by a truck (which was ironic because I think I actually won by decision) and someone had set my lungs on fire.

Editor’s Message – What’s in Store for 2010/2011

Going into our third season at Lighthouse Wrestling, I’m quite excited for the upcoming season. Since the end of the first season, I’ve been busy working to have additional contributors to the site.

Going into our third season at Lighthouse Wrestling, I’m quite excited for the upcoming year.  Since the end of the first season, I’ve been busy working to have additional contributors to the site.  It’s not easy.  To put it succinctly, few contributors will write for the love of it, even less will continue for any length of time.   However, I’m happy to say that a number of good people have offered to contribute in 2010/2011, and I’m hopeful they will deliver. Is It Time for Change?

It wouldn’t be summer if we weren’t debating the differences in play today versus the Golden Era of wrestling in New York State: the ‘70s. Yeah, I hate to do it. It’s the summer. What else is there to do than stir it up? A lot changed since.

2nd Annual Friday Night Lights Rocked

The Friends of Massapequa wrestling held a very successful 2nd annual Friday Night Lights tournament. Athletes from near and far, from yesteryear to this year participated in a festive tournament where winning was secondary to oiling up the joints, trying out some new moves, and meeting up with old friends.

When I first arrived at John Burns park, the DJ was spinning Spirit in the Sky while pee-wee wrestlers were competing and the older divisions were registering athletes. It’s a song I remember from my youth, and when I left the park, it’s been replaying in my head since. Continue reading “2nd Annual Friday Night Lights Rocked”
