It wouldn’t be summer if we weren’t debating the differences in play today versus the Golden Era of wrestling in New York State: the ‘70s. Yeah, I hate to do it. It’s the summer. What else is there to do than stir it up? A lot changed since.
The UE duals is scheduled to begin at 2PM on Saturday with 4 pools: 3 pools with 3 teams and one pool with 4 teams. They will go 4 rounds on Saturday.

On January 2nd, 13 ambitious teams from around New York State will make the trip to Union-Endicott to compete in New York’s most competitive dual meet tournament. Often the tournament champion is selected by the New York State Sports Writers Association (NYSSWA) as the number one team in the state. Though they use many events in their final selection, it is the keystone event in their analysis.

Friday Night Lights was a smashing success at Johns Burns Park in Massapequa on Friday Evening July 10. Unlike the tension at other wrestling touraments, Friday Nigh Lights was a combination festival, reunion, wrestling tournament rolled into one. Contrasted with a baseball game in progress on the adjacent field, it was on the mat where you could find all the excitement and fans, not so much for America’s favorite past time. Section VIII Semifinals
Quarterfinal results of the Section VIII D1 championships at Hofstrat University on February 21st.
When they last met in a dual meet on December 17, 2008, Wantagh defeated MacArthur by the score of 31-25. Since then, both teams have gone on to have very successful seasons with Wantagh winning the Section VIII class B dual meet championships and MacArthur winning the class A championships.

After a day when every competitor put it all on the line for their dreams, I left the arena that evening in awe of all the athletes: winners and losers. Everyone one of these boys came to wrestle their hearts out, and if you were present on Friday, you were privileged to witness an exciting day of wrestling from the opening pigtail round to the final whistle of the 285 pound wrestle backs.

The Suffolk County League III wrestling championship was held at Smithtown East High School on February 7, 2009. The Redmen from East Islip, winner of each of their dual meets during the season (7-0) battled its league opponents, Smithtown East (6-1), Newfield (5-2), Centereach (4-3), West Islip (3-4), Half Hollow Hills East (2-5), Copiague (1-6) and North Babylon (0-7). The league championships offer wrestlers from each school opportunities for redemption and confirmation as many of the wrestlers met during the current season and in seasons past.
When the “Battle for the Belt” began at 8 a.m. on November 1st, 2008 from the Greensboro Coliseum, it was a day of hope for some of New York State’s finest wrestlers. It was going to be the day that several of them proved that they were for real. For others, it was going to be a coming out party. The event that introduced them to the nation.
On Sunday Strong Island hosted their first annual wrestling tournament at Nassau community college. It was well attended by Suffolk, Nassau, City, and New Jersey wrestlers.
