Mat Side With Rob Koll – The Scuffle

It has been a while since my last musings, but that does not mean nothing has been happening in the Cornell wrestling world. As a matter of fact, we have been very busy and I am slightly surprised and disappointed that I have not heard many complaints about my silence.

It has been a while since my last musings, but that does not mean nothing has been happening in the Cornell wrestling world. As a matter of fact, we have been very busy and I am slightly surprised and disappointed that I have not heard many complaints about my silence. I can only surmise this means no one reads my ramblings or those who do are enjoying the break. For better or worse, however, I am back and here is the update.

Mat Side with Rob Koll: Season Recap December 9th

We have made it through the first half of the season with our record unblemished and I am excited for what awaits us in the second semester. Considering our wrestlers are getting ready for finals, I feel it is an appropriate time to give them performance evaluations as well.

Matt Side With Rob Koll: 2010/11 Season Preview

My wife loves the summer, my kids love the summer. I love when the summer ends. The end of summer symbolizes one thing: wrestling season is almost here.

Mat Side with Rob Koll – NCAA Analysis and Interview with Scott Casber

I’m back from Omaha and still riding a high from the weekend. Every wrestler wrestled well whether in victory or defeat. I am so honored to be a part of the greatest NCAA tournament performance in Cornell wrestling history.

Mat Side With Rob Koll – 2010 EIWA Recap

Rob Koll recaps the Big Red’s performance at the 2010 EIWA Championships.

Rob Koll and Troy Nickerson at EIWASix days until the NCAA’s and I am pleased to say the Big Red grapplers are ready to roll. Special thanks to all the Cornell red clad fans who showed up in Bethlehem to support the team. Although I look at this tournament as nothing more than an NCAA qualifier I have to admit I enjoy winning it if for no other reason so that Lehigh doesn’t. Mat Side with Rob Koll – Weekend Review 10-08

Rob Koll recaps the Big Red’s weekend performance against Penn and Princeton.

It was a great weekend for the guys. Everyone wrestled well and I am very happy with where we are at this point in the season. Obviously the competition is not as tough as it has been in the past but I still get nervous whenever we wrestle Penn at Penn. We used to have some very tough battles in the Palestra so it is nice to dominate the Quakers on their home turf. Continue reading “Mat Side with Rob Koll – Weekend Review 10-08”

Mat Side with Rob Koll – Las Vegas Invitational

Sorry it took me an extra day to get this update out. We took the redeye back and I expected to write it on the plane flight back.

Sorry it took me an extra day to get this update out. We took the redeye back and I expected to write it on the plane flight back. Unfortunately Delta Airlines chose to play an evil joke upon me by wedging me between Damion Hahn and Taylor Moore. I attempted to reach my computer, which was under my seat, but my arms were tightly pinned to my side by Damion and Taylor’s massive girth. Taylor prides himself on his weight gain now that he has moved up to 285. Damion on the other hand still claims to be hovering around 200 lbs. This claim is accuratel; however, it is based on what he would weigh on the planet Mars. Despite terrible travel, 28 hours of travel time to get there and a redeye back, the team wrestled very well finishing a point shy of first place.

Mat Side with Rob Koll – Maryland Dual Meet Analysis

I was going to put this off until after the Body Bar but l figured I might as well get it over with. We lost a heartbreaker tonight. There were some absolutely amazing performances and an equal number of less than stellar performances. I will start with the positives.

Mat Side with Rob Koll – Binghamton Open Results

Here are the results from the Binghamton Open. Most of our guys wrestled “unattached” which means they did not represent Cornell, and Cornell did not pay for any of their expenses.

cornellbigredHere are the results from the Binghamton Open. Most of our guys wrestled “unattached” which means they did not represent Cornell and Cornell did not pay for any of their expenses. Had they represented Cornell or we had paid for any of their expenses this would have counted as one of our thirteen dates of competition. Due to sickness many of our guys were unable to compete.  Continue reading “Mat Side with Rob Koll – Binghamton Open Results”

Matside with Rob Koll: 2009-10 Season Preview

The summer has passed by all too quickly, and the entire team has returned to Ithaca. We had a productive summer, and I am ecstatic to have everyone back. Actually this comes as no surprise to me since we had plus or minus 20 wrestlers training in Ithaca for all or part of the entire summer.
