After three grueling days of competition, heart attack moments, setbacks, incredible determination, and persistence in spite of the ever present obstacles, two Hofstra Pride wrestlers emerged from the cheers and hollers of Philadelphia with All-American honors in the 2011 championships.
It was a great weekend for the Big Red. We had a doubleheader on Saturday, starting with a 1 p.m. match at Hofstra, and then culminating in a 6 p.m. Ivy League faceoff at Columbia. Over the course of the day, our guys only gave up eight offensive points.
Hofstra University wrestling will open its home wrestling season taking on nationally ranked University of Maryland team in their newly refurbished Physical Fitness Center on the campus in Hempstead, L.I.
Last season was a rough one for the Hofstra University wrestling program. Hit hard by a number of season-ending injuries to key starters, the Pride failed to have any wrestlers earn All-American honors at the 2010 NCAA Division I championships.
The Russian Wrestling Federation has announced the lineup of freestyle wrestlers who will travel to the United States to compete in a USA vs. Russia dual meet at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. on Friday, Nov. 19.

On Thursday evening October 28th at 7:30PM Pride fans get their first peak of what is to come in 2010/11 when Hofstra holds their annual wrestle-off for the starting positions. The event, which will be held at the newly named Physical Education Center (formerly the PFC), will provide the student-athletes with the opportunity to display all the progress that accompanied the hard work, dedication and unmatched commitment put forth during the off-season. A one hour clinic (scheduled for 6:30pm) will precede the festivities.
The U.S. will have a very strong lineup in its freestyle wrestling dual against Russia at Hofstra’s University Arena in Hempstead, N.Y. on November 19.

Going into our third season at Lighthouse Wrestling, I’m quite excited for the upcoming season. Since the end of the first season, I’ve been busy working to have additional contributors to the site.

Now that we have wrestled through the most rigorous portion of the season it is nice to have a few “lighter” matches leading up the EIWA tournament. Out of twenty matches wrestled, we had only one wrestler lose a match.
