After bouncing between 2 and 4 in the standings, the Cornell Big Red emerged the team leader after the quarterfinal round. Only a half a point separates them from their Eastern Rival, Penn State. The top three team leaders are Cornell with 61, Penn State with 60.5, and Iowa with 51.5 points.
The Wrestling Witch of the East showed up in the form of Penn State blue and Cornell red and worked its magic as the 2 eastern teams moved ahead of Iowa. One of these teams could be making a bid to be the first eastern team to win a national wrestling title since Penn State in 1953.

For those who have been in a coma for the past three days, I am excited to tell you that the Big Red won the national dual meet championship this past weekend. Cornell became the first team outside of the Big Ten or Big Twelve to ever win this title.
The Big Red officially opened the season with a Friday night match against #6 Central Michigan and followed it up with the Arno Niemand Body Bar Invitational.

The Big Red wrestling team will add ten members to its roster as the class of 2014. The class has been recognized as one of the best in the country (third by WIN magazine, fourth by TheOpenMat.com and D1CollegeWrestling.com and eighth by Intermat). The group represents eight different weight classes and six states.

I’m back from Omaha and still riding a high from the weekend. Every wrestler wrestled well whether in victory or defeat. I am so honored to be a part of the greatest NCAA tournament performance in Cornell wrestling history.
Cornell earned All-Ivy accolades at a total of nine different weight classes. Eight earn first team honors for the 2009-2010 season. Lewnes and O’Connor named Co-Wrestlers of the year; Dake named rookie of the year.

Sorry it took me an extra day to get this update out. We took the redeye back and I expected to write it on the plane flight back.
After agonizing setback at the NCAA tournament in 2009, Mack Lewnes, Cornell Junior at 174lbs, is rolling through opponents like a 16lbs bowling ball scrambles pins on a strike. In early season results, he won the Las Vegas Invitational with a finals victory over 3rd ranked Stephen Dwyer of Nebraska, the Body Bar Invitational, the Binghamton Open and two dominating victories over Maryland’s formerly number 4 ranked Mike Letts.
I was going to put this off until after the Body Bar but l figured I might as well get it over with. We lost a heartbreaker tonight. There were some absolutely amazing performances and an equal number of less than stellar performances. I will start with the positives.
