The Bulls from Smithtown East opened up their season winning a 52-18 match with the Tigers from Northport, in a Suffolk County non league match at Smithtown East High School on December 15, 2010.

The match started at the now mandatory weight class of 96 with Bulls freshman Darius Caporaso executing an escape, take down and pin at the edge of the mat just as the first period ended to give Smithtown a 6-0 lead.

At 103, freshman league place winner and third place finisher at the Huntington Tournament Northport Tiger Ken Gallagher used a late third period switch and near fall to best Smithtown Sophomore and Sayville champion Steven Bair 10-6 to make the team score 6-3.

Bull freshman Will Outcault edged fellow 9th grade and second year varsity wrestler Tiger James Cicio with the help of a penalty for a last second clasp, 3-2 to increase Smithtown’s lead in the match to 9-3.

At 119 returning league place winner Branson Berger moved up a few weights and earned a major decision over Northport junior Dennis Kropp to make the team score 13-3 for the Bulls.

Sophomore Bull Jake Reddo got his first varsity victory with a 13-9 decision over 10th grade Tiger Rob Delvagio 13-9 to increase the Smithtown lead to 16-3.

Northport forfeited at 130 as their league champion Justin Geniser was injured. At 135, Northport senior captain and Huntington Tournament champion Dan Romancyk could not hold down Bull junior and third year varsity starter Luke Outcault, who earned a tough 4-3 overtime victory to make the team score 25-3 for the Bulls.

The match featured strength, agility and powerful defense from both wrestlers. Smithtown junior and Sayville tournament finalist Eric Binder overcame a 4-2 deficit and headlocked Northport junior Huntington tournament finalist and lacrosse player Vin Sosa with a pin at 3:02 to give the Bulls a sizable 31-3 lead.

Northport senior co-captain Matt Spiros controlled Bull junior Brian Leone 3-0 to make the team score 31-6. At 152 Bull junior league placewinner, Sayville tournament finalist and third year varsity wrestler Casey O’Malley dominated Tiger junior Steven Crumlich with a pin giving Smithtown a 37-6 lead.

At 160 Smithtown Bull senior Scott Price was leading 5-0 and then pinned Tiger senior Tom Breen to give Smithtown an insurmountable 43-6 lead.

The Tigers came back at 171 with senior football and lacrosse player and Huntington tournament champion Donovan Devaney pinning Bulls senior Nicholas Oliveri at the end of the first period after a series of upper body throws.

At 189, the Bulls senior Pat Falk used a series of arm bars to defeat Tiger senior football player Joe Klownowski 8-3 leaving the team score at 43-12 for the Bulls.

Smithtown Bull Josh Ward at 215 pinned freshman Tiger Jon Fabian in the second period to make the score 52-12 and at 275, Tiger junior football player and Huntington tournament finalist Jake Davenport took down Bull sophomore Jordan Alperin with the final team score at Smithtown Bulls 52 and Northport Tigers 18.
