The following are the final 2010 New York State power rankings for Division I, II and Unified (Divisions I and II combined). The power ranking is an attempt to rank wrestlers between weight classes and divisions. The power ranking is strictly a formula driven ranking. The ranking normalizes all the weight classes by assessing its difficulty to place. The most difficult weight class would have only seniors competing in the weight class. The least difficult weight class would have only 7th graders competing in it. Weight class difficulty adjusts year to year. Accumulated success in the state tournament adds to the power rating. However, most recent performance weighs more heavily than former performance. For example, a first place finish in 2010 would add more points than a first place finish in 2009 provided the weight classes are of equal strength. It’s difficult for a wrestler to rank highly if they’ve only placed once in the state tournament. This is one of many possible ways to assess acomplishment between weight classes and divisions.

submitted a correction. Miscalculated for wrestlers who competed in 2 divisions: Kyle Colling and Grant Greene. It’s corrected now.
Where is Austin hayes took 4th at 171 and is not ranked? was undefeated going into states…
I would have to say this ranking is way off. Four months after the state tournament the formula ranks Crisafulli and Hanson over Murphy. Both placed 2nd with a loss to Murphy at the State tournament. Hanson in 2010 was nearly teched in the State final by Murphy and Crisafulli lost to Murphy in 2008. Both deserve high ranking, but to rank them ahead of the wrestler who beat them in the State tournament is flawed to say the least.
