Eight Cornell Wrestlers Earn Ivy First Team Honors

Cornell earned All-Ivy accolades at a total of nine different weight classes. Eight earn first team honors for the 2009-2010 season. Lewnes and O’Connor named Co-Wrestlers of the year; Dake named rookie of the year.

ITHACA, N.Y. — For the second consecutive season, Cornell wrestler Mack Lewnes earned Ivy League Wrestler of the Year and joined seven classmates as unanimous selections to the All-Ivy first team, including Rookie of the Year Kyle Dake, when the conference announced the award winners on Thursday afternoon. Cornell earned All-Ivy accolades at a total of nine different weight classes.

Lewnes, who earned the conference’s top honor a season ago, shares the award this season with Harvard’s J.P. O’Connor, the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 157 pounds. Lewnes was a unanimous pick at 174 pounds. Dake was also a unanimous pick from his spot atop the rankings at 141 pounds. He was the only freshman wrestler on the All-Ivy first team and one of just three freshmen to earn All-Ivy honors at all this year.

Also earning unanimous first-team honors were Tory Nickerson at 125 pounds, Mike Grey at 133 pounds, Corey Manson at 149 pounds, Justin Kerber at 165 pounds, Cam Simaz at 197 pounds and Josh Arnone at heavyweight. Steve Bosak was a second-team selection at 184 pounds to round out the honored Cornell wrestlers.
