The Bulldogs from North Babylon behind strong wrestling from their light weights defeated the Bulls from Smithtown East 31-27 in a Suffolk County league III match at Smithtown East High School on January 8, 2010.
The match started at 140 with North Babylon Senior Michael Fitzroy earning a 3-0 decision over Bull sophomore Anthony Forca to bring his record to 8-2. At 145 Smithtown East Bull sophomore Casey O’Malley used an arm bar for a near fall and held off after a reversal and fierce leg ride from North Babylon junior Tim Gage to win 8-5 and make the team score even at 3.
At 152 Smithtown Bull senior all league wrestler Kyle Eagan pinned sophomore Brandon Winn from North Babylon to make the match score 9-3. At 160 junior Jose Correa from North Babylon got his 7th win of the year with a 10-2 decision over Smithtown East senior Dan Reiter withstanding and defending an arm bar attack by Reiter and scoring all of his points in the third period to make the team score 9-7.
At 171 North Babylon senior Frank Copagna got his 10th win of the year over Bulls senior Pat Devlin to give the Bulldogs the match lead 11-9. North Babylon Coach Brian Uvena elected to forfeit 189 to Tim Kopiske and moved up Anthony Grassa to face Pat Falk at 215 and the strategy worked as Grassa lost a close decision to Falk 5-4 to make the team score 18-11 for Smithtown going to into the light weights.
At 103 Bulldog senior North Babylon tournament champion David Cortes earned a major decision and his 9th win of the year over Smithtown East league place winner Branson Berger 10-2 to reduce the Smithtown match lead to 18-15. At 112 Bulldog junior and all league wrestler and tournament champion Nick Dominichi pinned Justin Burns from Smithtown to give the Bulldogs the match lead 21-18.
North Babylon junior Tom Bennett used a leg scissor and then pinned Dan Burns at 119 to increase the Bulldog lead 27-18. Smithtown Bull senior captain Dylan Clay escaped with 5 seconds left in the match to defeat junior Brian Belmont 10-9 making the match score closer at 27-21. At 130 the Bulls Eric Binder was down 4-1 when he head locked and pinned North Babylon junior Kamali O’Brian to even the match score at 27. The last match of the evening was at 135 with North Babylon junior tournament champion Dan Clancy scrambling and defeating Smithtown sophomore Luke Outcault 12-2 for his 12th win of the year and to earn the team victory 31-27 for the Bulldogs of North Babylon over the Smithtown East Bulls.

The Bulls from Smithtown East continued their winning ways (7-1 overall and 1-0 in league) defeating the Lions from West Islip 30-18 (0-2 overall and 0-1 in league) in a Suffolk County league III match at West Islip High School on January 6, 2010.
The match started at 125 with West Islip Senior Captain Brian Culkin capturing a decision over his senior Bull counterpart Dylan Clay, 5-1 to give the Lions the first team points. But at 130 the Bulls Eric Binder overpowered league champion Matt Donovan 9-1 to make the team score 4-3 for Smithtown East.
The Lions came back at 135 with a 3-2 win by senior Rob Diggle who escaped in the last period from Bulls sophomore Luke Outcault to make the team score 6-4 for West Islip. At 140 Bull sophomore Anthony Forca used a series of arm bars to defeat Lion sophomore Joe Byrne 10-1 to give the Bulls the match lead 8-6. In an exciting back and forth match at 145 Lion senior captain Dan Walsh reversed Bull sophomore Casey O’Malley to tie the match and send it to overtime and won it with a takedown with seven seconds left, 9-7 to give West Islip the match lead 9-8.
The Bulls five year varsity starter, league champion and senior captain Kyle Eagan defeated Lion senior Greg Fernan 14-3 to give Smithtown East the match lead 12-9. At 160 Bulls senior league champion Dan Reiter held down Lions sophomore Pat Ryan 4-0 to increase the Bull lead to 15-9. Making his varsity debut, senior Bull Pat Devlin moved up to 171 and controlled Lion sophomore Dylan Calhoun to win 3-0 making the match score 18-9.
Bull junior Tim Kopiske moved up to 189 and was too much for Lion sophomore Brendan Smith and the pin gave Smithtown East the match lead 24-9. Bull junior Pat Falk won a decision over Lion freshman Mike Bilella 6-0 to stretch the Bulls lead to 27-9.
Behind in the team score, West Islip Coach Nick LaGiglia decided to move up his 96 pound freshman and Amityville and West Islip Tournament Champion Tyler Walsh to wrestle the Bulls sophomore Branson Berger at 103. Berger dominated the first period with a take down and near fall. The wrestlers scrambled without further score in the second period and in the last period, Berger withstood a furious assault by Walsh to come away with a 4-3 victory cementing the match for Smithtown East.
At 112 senior Lion Bobby Lang wrestled aggressively in his decision over freshman Justin Burns 11-2 to narrow the Bulls lead to 30-13 and at 119 West Islip junior league champion county place winner Steve Coppola ended the match with an arm bar and a pin over Bulls junior Dan Burns.
