It has been said that Lance Moore was a NYer before he was officially a NYer….A pupil of Scott Green at the famed Shamrock Wrestling Club, Moore has honed his skills by working out with some of the finest talent that the Empire State has to offer…And on Thursday, all of that hard work and dedication paid off when he announced his intentions to continue his academic and athletic career at rising Colonial Athletic Association contender, Binghamton University….By virtue of making this decision, Moore, who kicked off November by finishing 5th at the prestigious Super-32 tournament, ensured that the relationship with Green (who is an Assistant on Coach Pat Popolizio’s staff) will be extended for at least the four or five years.
A senior transfer to the always strong Johnson City High School wrestling program (Section IV), Moore will enter the 2009/2010 season as someone who you should keep a close eye on, especially come tournament time Albany….Already a decorated wrestler on the scholastic level, prior to his change of scenery, Moore earned back-to-back finishes in the PIAA AA State tournament, finishing 3rd last season at heavyweight, after concluding his sophomore campaign with a 5th place finish at 215 (@ Lackawanna Trials High School)
Nationally, the future BU Bearcat is not without his fair share of jaw dropping accolades…This past summer, he was the National Champion at the NHSCA High School Open Championship. Before that, he was a 2009 NHSCA Junior National All-American, finishing 3rd in Virginia Beach….If you are not convinced yet of this young man’s immense talents, keep in mind that his success on the big stage has transcended all grade levels and mat surfaces….As a sophomore, Moore finished 3rd at the Brute Adidas Nationals, and is a former Beach National Champion.
Possessing a career record of 107-12 heading into this season, Moore had been a hot commodity on the open market prior to Thursday’s announcement…In speaking with his father, LHW learned that Moore had narrowed down the plethora of suitors to a short list consisting of the following: the University of Virginia, Pittsburgh, Bucknell, and the eventual winner, Binghamton.
Commenting on his son’s behalf, Joe. Moore indicated that the choice came down to the fact that he (Lance) was impressed with the campus and had total confidence in the coaching staff to help him reach his full potential…As the elder Moore put it, “He feels like he won’t be just a number there (@ Binghamton).”….Mr. Moore also cited the strength of the wrestling community (mentioning valuable resources such as Mike Fusilli, Rick Gumbal and Coach Capone) in the area as a primary reason for selecting the Upstate, NY based institution.
Lance Moore becomes the second wrestler from the current senor class to commit to Binghamton University…He is joined by the #11 nationally ranked recruit, Tyler Beckwith (a teammate of Moore’s at Shamrock), who gave a verbal commitment to Popolizio and company all the way back in July…With the only heavies on the BU roster both holding upperclassmen (Dan Bittner-RS Jr; Corey Waite– Sr.) status, it should not be long before Moore makes his presence felt.
On behalf of all of us at Lighthouse Wrestling, we sincerely congratulate Lance, his family, and all of his past and current coaches…The day belongs to you !!!
