  • Henry Goetze '71 says:

Mr. Bishop was both my English teacher and wrestling coach. He was a baby huey sort of guy….gentle, gentile, learned. An unusual combination of refinement and toughness. I remember him with great fondness.

Stan Bishop was also my English teacher and wrestling coach (Henry and I were teammates). A fine guy. I was happy to talk with him at our 30th reunion. I remembered reading The Odyssey for his class; he told me it was his favorite book. I later spent a year teaching high school English–a nightmare overall, but I loved teaching the Odyssey and thought often of Stan Bishop.

Ditto, Stan was my coach and English teacher as well. He’s the first guy I ever saw driving a Volvo, back in the early 70′s. A prince of a man, always kind and with a sharp wit. He helped my dad greatly supervising the large squads we had in those days. He was also a personal and loyal friend. I trust Stanton Bishop is resting in peace with His Lord…
