Yankees: Fate is in The House

Fate lost game 5 for the Yankees against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Do you really think they would have lost to a team with 5 words in their name if Fate would have allowed them to win?

Fate was wise when the Yankees scored 6 in the 7th… Fate was ready to prop the Yankees up for a win…but wait. Something wasn’t right…A-Rod was intentionally walked in the 7th …that can’t be how it shakes out.

Yes…he scored a run in that inning, but an intentional walk? So fate went to work again. In the bottom of the 7th fate allowed Joe Girardi to trot A.J. Burnett out to the mound even though he had so many fresh bullpen arms to finish up the game.

Fate allowed Joe Girardi to keep Burnett in after a hit so he could walk the tying run on base. So of course fate brought in Damaso Marte…then Hughes…then Joba…and all of a sudden the 5 worded Californians were up again at 7-6.  Then Girardi…or was it Fate goes to Mariano to keep it a one run game into the 9th.  Perfect! Fate thought.

Yanks are up in the top of the 9th with 2 outs and up walks A-Rod with Fate in his favor. Of course A-Rod would tie the game with 2 outs in the 9th.  Fuentes would falter once again.

But wait…the Angelheim’s manager had something up his sleeve. He would not allow fate to beat him. And he certainly would not allow A-Rod to cork a shot into the stands off of Fuentes once again.

So he did what every hot-blooded, yellow-bellied manager would do with a one run lead and 2 outs in the top of the 9th with his closer in the game. He walked the tying run on base. Yeah right, that’s the move in the 9th with 2 outs.

So of course Fate took charge again…and allowed the Yanks to do what they had to do up to a point. A-Rod takes the intentional walk…Matsui walks, Cano walks….and then the moment of truth would arrive. Swisher at the plate with a 3-2 count, I was sure he would come through…with a walk or perhaps a game-winning hit. But Fate is smarter than that.

Girardi pinch ran for A-Rod so he was out of the game. The game could not be won with A-Rod on the bench. The game could not even be tied that way…otherwise A-Rod was not available to win the game in extra innings. So Swisher pops out and on we go to game 6 at Yankee Stadium. Perfect! Again Fate says.

What better than a game 6 at the Stadium A-Rod at the plate with the pivotal hit…perhaps the game-winning hit or perhaps the walk-off game-winning hit?  What better than to do it at the stadium where Alex Rodriguez needs his first defining moment as a Yankee? Yes…first I said.

We all know where his second defining moment will come. Yankee Stadium game 6 or 7 of the World Series with Fate in the house and with one of the (consensus) best managers in baseball, Mike Scioscia has to worry about many things. Yankee bats are brewing (except Swisher LOL). Yanks are coming home. And Scioscia has to worry about a combined force that is impossible to stop! A-Rod and Fate are both in the Yankee house. Yankee Stadium game 6 of the ALCS 2009 should be a game not to be missed

If by some weird circumstance Scioscia avoids Fate in game 6 by walking A-Rod 5 times, then he has to deal with the triple-force threat of game 7.  A-Rod, Sabathia and Fate will be in the house that night. The house that Derek Jeter built and the house in which A-Rod is now welcome by his teammates, Yankee fans and of course…Fate.
