To all readers I would like to welcome you to Lighthouse Wrestling, Long Islands newest and soon to be greatest website for all information on everything that involves wrestling. The Iron Edge’s goal will be to bring to LI wrestlers the best information on strength training and conditioning as it pertains to the sport of wrestling.
My name is William Ellinger. I have been involved with LI wrestling since 1978 as both a competitive wrestler and a coach. I have a masters in Physical Education with dual New York State certification in PE/Health. I also have a minor in Nutrition and am a top level Certified Fitness Instructor with the International Sports Science Association.
In addition, I have competed and coached both Football and Lacrosse, as well as running strength training programs and teaching the sport of Powerlifting. Some of my past accomplishments include being a 4 year Varsity Wrestler at Bethpage High School. Team captain my senior year and ranked #1 in Nassau County. I did this at my natural body weight of 155lbs.
On the Marine Fitness Team I was 2 year captain and third in NYS. In college, I was a 4 year Varsity starter, 2nd in the Eastern Regional National Qualifier my junior year. Elected team captain as a senior, I earned national recognition before a severe ankle injury slowed me down.
In Powerlifting, I have won many competitions and hold NYS record in both the open raw and Masters divisions. I also have one national Masters record. What it comes down to, basically, is my total obsession with wrestling and strength sports.
I have spent countless hours studying both. I hope that this quick background will convince you of my qualifications. Currently I have a small gym located in Bethpage where I offer personal and team strength training. Lifters who are willing to put in the time and effort as many wrestlers are, make incredible gains in their overall strength.
I welcome Wrestlers from all over LI to come by and check out the gym. I can be reached for questions and comments at ironwill(at)optonline(dot)net . I am looking forward to hearing from you and writing my first article for Lighthouse Wrestling. Till next time, GET STONG; Will
